  • Fashion Month's Opening Act: NYFW Shows You Can’t Miss

September is the month that provides fashion lovers with enough ammunition and conversation points to last until a much needed top-up in February.  And this set of shows could set history with an almost absurd amount of Creative Director changes. It’s the biggest season I've ever witnessed in my lifetime and I am so eager to see what all the ridiculously talented designers and their enormous teams are ready to serve us for the next season.  Starting off tomorrow in one of the most fashion crazed cities in the world. New York. With over 60 shows and presentations set to take place over the week. The fun starts tomorrow with designers such as Ulla Johnson, Michael Kors, Forme, Alexander Wang, and so many more. I couldn't be more excited.  My personalised PDF for New York Fashion Week is shown below - colour coded and everything. Or you can find the clear (unedited by mimi) schedule linked below -   New York: New York Fashion Week The talent that goes into putting together one singular fashion show is beyond fathomable. From those on the front lines creating a vision, from Creative Director, to designers, pattern makers, sketchers, fabric sourcers, seamstresses, embroiderers, stylists, ateliers. To those who manage and organise the logistics - garment technicians, production managers, assistants, casting directors, producers, light & sound directors. To those who deal with RSVPs and guestlists, PR team, photographers, and social media team. And finally to those you see on the big screen, the models themselves & the gigantic team behind them - stylists, makeup artists, hairstylists. The list goes on and on.  A small, emerging designer still requires at least 10-30 people to even make a collection to show feasible. Whereas mid level brands will have from 30 - 70 people on hand throughout the process, and even larger brands way into the hundreds. There are approximately over 350 fashion shows each season. CRAZY. The amount of talent that showcases is insane. It would be near impossible for one person to track them all. So I am going to provide you with ones you cannot miss, from classics, to emerging designers, and debuting talent. There are so many amazing designers showcasing at NYFW. I’ve split these into 3 separate categories to make it easier to prioritise which shows you want to watch! Hope it’s helpful, I know I’ve marked my calendar for a handful of these shows.  Can’t-Miss Shows Established names and major moments guaranteed to dominate headlines and social media. There are 11 i’ve marked on the pdf, the shows you absolutely cannot miss:  Michael Kors - The official kickoff: September 11th @11am -  Marking the formal launch of the American Collections. Always polished and packed with celebs. You cannot miss the opening show to fashion month! Will they bring back the vintage vibes? Or channel a more futuristic vibe, or maybe they’ll play it safe...  Off‑White - September 12th @4pm -   A return to NYFW. The return of a streetwear powerhouse under Kamara’s bold editorial direction. Alexander Wang - September 12th @9:30pm -   A high-profile return, likely to be dramatic and high-energy. The show coincides with the anticipated calendar debut of SC103  (a must see emerging designer)  Tibi (Amy Smilovic) - September 13th @10am -   A minimalist fan-favorite for cool-girl tailoring. I am so eager to see what's in store for this one. Jason Wu - September 14th @5pm -   Known for elegance and celebrity clients, always a crowd-puller. Toteme - September 15th @10am -  Quiet luxury with Swedish refinement. So many other NYFW classics also return to the runway such as: Collina Strada, Tory Burch, Coach, Khaite, and Ulla Johnson. All returning to deliver their new collections through the weekend. Ensuring the runway stays grounded in classic, polished aesthetics from reliable favourites.  Debuts and Comebacks to Watch Designers or brands either showing for the first time, making major transitions, or relaunching under new creative direction: Nicholas Aburn at Area - September 12th @10am - A debut collection from the former Balenciaga couture designer. It is always exciting to see a renowned creative director transition and see what they do with the new creative freedom. Expect technical excellence with a subversive edge. Calvin Klein Collection (Veronica Leoni)  - September 12th @12pm - Her sophomore collection could redefine the brand's trajectory under her new leadership Fforme (Frances Howie) - September 12th @2pm - Another sophomore show, gaining traction for sculptural minimalism. Emerging Designers Designers who could potentially be the future of fashion, emerging talent has to be given a chance to make waves with fresh perspectives. Below are a few of my favourite up and comers at NYFW: Maria McManus - September 12th @9am - Minimalist, sustainability-driven, and refined. Zane Li (Lii) - September 16th @3pm -   An up and comer,  pushing experimental silhouettes. L’Enchanteur - September 11th @4pm -   CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner ; known for mystical, futuristic flair. This is a must watch. I even have it in my calendar. I mean, they won the Vogue Fashion Fund! Come on.  SC103 -  September 11th @4pm -  Conceptual accessories label making its calendar debut in the big leagues. I am so eager for the first of the four fashion weeks to start! We’ll be reporting  across all 4 cities throughout the month. Telling you beforehand all the shows you need to be on the lookout for, possibly even book time off work ( i know i would). From emerging designers to debuts with new creative leads. I’ll spare no one's feelings (and that’s a promise) I’ll be with you each and every step of the way. Reporting live twice a week. Mid week reports on what's been good so far and what’s to come. As well as of course an end of week review reporting firsthand what's MAJOR and what was hated.  With schedules focusing on a mix of heritage brands, debuts, and emerging talents. I’m overjoyed and slightly unnerved to see what masters such as Chanel, Loewe, Gucci etc have up their sleeves. As well as the most anticipated debuts of new creative leads - link below to our blog post all about this insane Creative Director swapover. But above all else i'm excited to see what emerging talents, the future of fashion have to offer. I love emerging designers because they have more to prove, more to work for - which gives them edge, a much needed characteristic when in the face of fashion. I hope you’ve gained some knowledge and filled your calendars with this info, there are so many more amazing shows coming after NYFW. It just gets better and better, I cannot wait for the grand finale of fashion month. Paris Fashion Week. The mother of all mothers. But while we remain waiting for that one, I'll fill you in on all there is to know before we get there.  With love, mimi xox

  • Colours, Patterns, and the season of Autumn…

As Miranda Priestly once said, “florals for spring. Groundbreaking.”  I too am not going to underwhelm you by producing orange tones & neutrals for Autumn. I’d hate to be that predictable.  Some of my observations and trend forecasting could potentially seem pretty rogue here but I have faith in my eye for trends and I'm gonna go for it. Even if you guys struggle to believe it. Just watch. You can screenshot this and prove me wrong if you don’t see any of these colours or patterns around. I’m telling you - it won’t happen. 5 core colours to know about this Autumn:  Now cracking on with the colours I predict will take over the season. I’m gonna start off bold with the red colour palette. Last year it was all Burgundy, Burgundy, Burgundy. This year, I think fashion will take a new turn.  Tomato Anyone? Tomato red is quite a statement however in this drastically evolving era in fashion i think people are already, and will further, begin to branch out and experiment further.  The hues are endless, but I've put a few of my faves above.  I want to see people brighter than freshly grown tomatoes.  If you still need some convincing, envision a tomato red mini dress with knee high black boots and a black trench coat. MWAH. GENIUS. I will be wearing that this Autumn.  You can even tone the outfit down with more neutral toned garments, and think about the range of a tomato. You’ve got Cherry Tomatoes, but also Plum tomatoes, and then Sun dried! Tomato takeover.  Maroon Merlot - Merlot, Red Wine, Maroon. I am in love with this colour palette! For those who love red, but prefer a more muted tone I have lots of faith in this one. I think Maroon and red wine kinda colours are really going to take over this year.  To be very specific I'm going for a Merlot shade. Try to tell me I'm wrong - I dare you. I’d even put money on it that this will be a shade of the season.  Muted enough to feel understated, but rich enough to make people look twice because of the maroon tint it possesses. I’ll see you in my Merlot coloured trench in October…  Plums & Purples this is stunning! I have never been one to talk about purple, however I have been recently intrigued by a deep royal purple hue that I can only describe as plum violet. I must have seen one fashion diva wearing it that looked so amazing  it’s changed my entire perception of the colour.  The Plum Violet swatch ( below left) is a perfect, cohesive, silky colour that literally screams elegance and sophistication. Purple is so back and I'm ready to see it in the upcoming fashion weeks (I hope!) As a once purple hater, I am now converted. The colour is stunning - I never thought I'd say that, but by taking a look at it I hope you can see the vision.  If you aren’t such a fan of the deep purple tones, I think pure plum is going to blossom this year. Stemming from the red family. Plum is such a good colour to play around with because like a tomato there are a spectrum of shades. Giving the perfect mix between red, pink and purple. If anyone's wearing purple I expect it will be more of a plum kind of palette as opposed to deep violet - most people like to stay safe than sorry.   I’m hopeful purple will have its rightful moment at the top of the colour pyramid for a while, after all it is the royal colour for a reason. Fun fashion fact: The royal purple shade was historically was very rare to find and expensive to buy! The dye was made from rare sea snails. No wonder Ralph Lauren Purple Label will set you back an entire house deposit. Look like a royal, feel like a royal, wear purple like a royal. I always did want to be a princess.  Browns. Obviously. Brown almost overwhelms me to think about, because of the sheer variety of tones to choose from. Chocolate is never going to go out of style. There is nothing wrong with a classic after all. Brown oozes elegance to me, it speaks volumes and easily elevates any outfit.  I have definitely been influenced this year by the brown takeover. Coffee, tiramisu, chestnut, almond, chocolate, martini, mocha the tones are again endless and I definitely have a few handfuls of them in my current rotation. Pantone's colour of the year for 2025 has been labelled Mocha Mousse for a reason. See here - Pantone - Mocha Mousse: Colour of the year 2025 I’ve put my favourites below that I think are going to devour and likely decimate the colour palette this Autumn (at least I hope so, or I'll have to sell my wardrobe). Mint Green   Spotted on the runway for the A/W 2025 season back in February, McQueen amongst others displayed mint green tones in superbly cut gowns. Most people won’t be donning mint-green gowns, but trust me, the shade will trickle down.  Rihanna herself stunned in mint green while attending an A/W show, so if RiRi thinks it’s cool. It’s cool. As quoted in Vogue, “Rihanna wore a custom look that celebrated Anderson’s new take on tailoring, with a waistcoat fastened over the singer’s bump, realised in a mint shade that was seen on the runway.”    Steer clear of Burnt Orange/ Rust - Let’s cancel the burnt orange and rusty colours. It’s giving millennial and very much 2015 vibes. That could partly be because I had a rust coloured cringey slogan jumper from Primark which haunted my wardrobe for 4 years. The Rust Pantone snapshot is exactly what I'm referring to. Too orange to be brown and too brown to be orange, it reminds me of freshly dug clay, and that’s not quite the earthy aesthetic I’m going for. To each their own, if you think it’s a good colour please do let me know below because I would love to know if I'm accurate in my opinion or if my orange jumper from Year 7 has caused irreparable damage to my colour theory. 4 patterns to keep an eye on this Autumn… Colours may dominate the runway, but patterns bring them to life. Here are five prints I’m wiling to place bets on for this season. Bad or Plaid?  Of course we have to have plaid, but this Autumn I want a really confusing amount of lines. I’m talking about the most confusing plaid you’ve ever seen. I want to be so perplexed by the amount of colours intertwining that I get a bit lost.  A cohesive mix of colours interwoven at different thicknesses. Scarfs, dresses, t-shirts, trousers, accessories. Trust me you will be seeing it. So many crossovers that it looks a bit like my visions been impaired and all I can see is lines. Do you get the vision? Leave a cheeky comment below… Teeny Tiny Polka Dots  Specifically, I want to see micro polka dots, very small prints. Even more specific than that, I want to see more high- end print production. I think there is something so charming about a hand drawn pattern. Nothing confusing or complicated, just small imperfectly perfect handdrawn polka dots.  How cute! A little hand drawn polka instead of the mass produced, overwhelming amount of fast fashion factory printed patterns we are seeing more and more.  Lacey, Lacey, Lacey  Now lace is a tough one because it’s a fabric and a pattern, however the majority of lace floating around the industry isn’t authentic lace anyway so I'm going to consider it purely a pattern. I think there will once again be an influx in lace trim.  Not only that but entirely lace garments have once been a trend, and I'm sure still will be at some point. However, this year I want to see a bit more modesty, perhaps lined lace, with a statement colour underneath and lace on top. That could be really cool.  Patchwork  As a designer myself I know for a fact how time consuming and how much effort goes into patchwork. I’m not talking about patchwork prints which can be mass produced and look alright from afar but not anywhere near as charming and endearing as a real patchwork piece.  There's already been an increase in the scandi style patchwork padded jackets, i’m gonna predict a rise in these jackets. Fingers crossed. Patchwork is so artistic in the way that an artist has complete artistic freedom to curate each and every pattern to create one massive design that then becomes a walkable art instalment. I’m excited to hopefully see more patchwork around this Autumn. Time will tell  Will I be accurate or will this become an embarrassingly bad piece of evidence to add to my otherwise quite strong trend forecasting streak. Only time will tell and I'm hopeful at least some of these colours are going to end up sprouting to life in the coming months. Either that or my vinted favourites and my overflowing shopping carts need to be emptied immediately. Do you agree with my Autumnal trend takes?  with love, mimi xox

  • How I Got Scouted as a Model - My Unexpected Journey Into the Industry

With fashion weeks approaching, I think it’s only right to tell you how I got into the modelling industry. A model scout. A goal. Never giving up & lots of screaming. The story of how I got scouted is not very conventional. Subconsciously, I think I’d always wanted to be a model. The women in magazines were the coolest people ever to me. I started buying fashion magazines with my mum at the supermarket and thought, “ Wow, they must be super famous”  -  how naïve I was. Some of my favourite shots even made it onto my wall, held up with a 4 year old piece of blue tack. Now, not even 10 years later, it’s WILD to say I actually am one of those women. All because I was scouted at the ripe age of 16. At the time, I thought I was fully grown and had peaked in life. GCSEs: smashed. Started Year 12. Working part-time in a luxury department store. Girlie really thought she had it all figured out. A 12 year old dream  I’m going to give you some backstory first because it’s necessary to the story development! Let’s rewind to 12, I begged my mum to take me to London to visit modelling agencies. How delusional I was to think that I was old enough to become a model when I hadn't even gone through puberty yet - and was max 5’1. (Thank god for the growth spurt.) the infamous "worlds most beautiful girl" As a Year 7, I really thought I could be the next Kate Moss. That infamous picture of the most beautiful girl in the world really was my inspo from 2014- 2017. I used to Google “most beautiful girl in the world”  and lowkey expected to see my own face pop up. Delusional isn’t even the word. 12-year-old Mimi was an icon… but also, such an idiot. When Mum laughed in my face and said no, I waited it out. At 14, I begged again.  Once again I was hit with a hard no. Thankfully by this point I was aware of the internet. So, I took matters into my own hands and applied to about 10 London-based agencies: Storm, Next, Premier, Milk, Models1, Select, Elite, Wilhelmina, Nevs, IMG. I applied to the lot & received a total of zero responses. Shocker. I love this quote. Third Time’s the Charm Fast forward to 16. I was scrolling through TikTok and saw some model diva living it up during fashion week in Paris, and thought: ' Why am I working part-time for pennies when I could be doing that?' So I sent off some selfies and a little video -  I can’t even remember where, but I do know Premier, Storm, and Milk replied. All within 48 hours. Going from zero interest whatsoever to then three major agencies emailing me? Insane. I’ve never known a feeling like it! The Big Day Picture it now. Great Western Railway, 4 lattes to calm my nerves (which actually did the reverse and made me shake like crazy instead) , and a trip to London with my mum to meet with three of the most prestigious modelling agencies in the country.  Milk Model Management: First on the list was Milk. As a 16 year old fetus I hadn't heard of Milk at the time and didn’t have any expectations because I didn't want to end up disappointed.  Milk were everything and more. We walked in, the entire team looked at me and I felt immediately welcomed and calmer. The scout that had reached out to me came over first and asked a few questions, to which me and mum tried to maintain calm and cohesive answers for. Then he went and discussed it with the head of the New Faces department and the other bookers.  my first ever contract! I remember it so clearly! They all stood over at the main managers desk and peered over at me. After what felt like 20 minutes of deliberating the entire team came over to say hello. Which both overwhelmed and overjoyed me all at once.  The head of the New Faces department came and sat down with me and we had a little chat. To which she then ended by offering me a modelling contract. CRYING. I almost died on the spot, but had to remain composed and collected - particularly so because instead of saying “yes, yes, yes”  like I wanted to. I had to say, “I have two more meetings to do today, I'll have to let you know.”   Nonchalant isn’t in my emotion list so this was a big struggle for me.  The entire team already felt like family and I knew Storm and Premier had a run for their money if they too offered me contracts. We went shopping in the break between meetings and I remember being in the changing room in Urban Outfitters and I was so excited I audibly squealed and had to jump up and down. Happiest girl ever.  Storm: We met with Storm next. I was already ecstatic knowing the remaining meetings could go awful and I already had a contract waiting for me! The most prestigious agency in London and my most anticipated visit of the day. As we walked in, me and mum could already tell we didn’t like it. Weird vibe. I’m gonna throw a curveball here and say they rely on their name too much. You may have scouted Kate Moss but that isn’t enough to allow you to be impolite.  They were nice enough, took pictures and we chatted, they said they would let us know about the outcome in a few days, but the energy was so off. We both agreed: even if they offered me a contract, it’d be a no. Premier: Warm, welcoming, and professional - they were lovely. The team was lovely and they made us feel so welcomed. We filled in forms, chatted with the heads of New Faces, and it was a great experience. I honestly don’t have a bad word to say about them. But by then, Milk had already won me over. The Yes I emailed Milk over dinner to tell them no one had beaten their unmatched vibe of happiness and friendliness. To which they responded almost instantaneously with a heartwarming picture of the whole team crossing their fingers, captioned with. “We’ve had our fingers crossed all day”  It was a yes to Milk - who I have proudly been represented by for the past 3 years.   Having a modelling contract offered to me was an absolutely insane moment and something I'll always be proud of for putting myself up for and getting the process started myself. Maybe I was impatient, or maybe it was proactive thinking but either way I am proud to admit I got the ball rolling and made this happen for myself. Sure, it’s a dream to be scouted at a festival or on a train, but if that doesn’t happen, don’t wait around. Be proactive. Take the selfies. Send them in. Do it for yourself. If you’re feeling inspired, here are some of the best, most genuine agencies (in my opinion) to apply to: Milk - https://www.milkmanagement.co.uk/apply Premier -   https://www.premiermodelmanagement.com/become/ Nevs - https://www.nevsmodels.co.uk/apply Select - https://apply.selectmodel.com/ Make things happen for yourself - it feels even better that way.  With love, Mimi  xox

  • Here comes Super September!

buzzing to analyse the shows. eeek - credit to original source According to the Vogue September issue, the Vogue office girlies have been referring to this upcoming season as the “Super September”  - and I couldn't be more excited. So, having magpied this little phrase, I think it’s only right that this post features the most anticipated event lingering in the coming weeks: Fashion Month. From the abundance of new creative directors flooding the industry this season, to the sense of community it brings, and the transition to Autumn, this fashion month is going to be a big one . All of fashion's biggest faces can sense a shift and are anticipating an imminent new phase in the industry. You already know it’s going to be insane. Twice a year, London, Paris, Milan & New York transform into one enormous fashion ecosystem as buyers, editors, designers, and style aficionados descend upon the streets for fashion week. Chioma Nnadi (Head of Editorial Content at British Vogue),  said in the September Big Fashion Issue  that:  “The creative directors limbering up to unveil their first collections for major fashion houses this season are almost impossible to name without taking a breath: Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, Pierpaolo Piccioli at Balenciaga and Jonathan Anderson’s womenswear debut for Dior. The list goes on.” Fashion’s greatest reshuffle. There has never been such a crazy transitional window, not in my lifetime at least. Let’s talk about it. Matthieu Blazy at Chanel - credit to original source Matthieu Blazy taking over at Chanel Chanel is a personal favourite of mine, and I'm somewhat protective of it. In December 2024, nearly seven months after Virginie Viard's shocking departure, Matthieu Blazy was announced as Chanel's new Creative Director - entrusted with haute couture, ready-to-wear, and accessories. Having previously reinvigorated Bottega Veneta with standout designs, I’m hopeful for Blazy because his designs tend to feel incredibly fresh, and I’m eager to see what he has in store for Chanel.  He is set to unveil his debut collection at Paris Fashion Week in September. Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta - credit to original source Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta Bottega has a very clear vibe, and with Trotter stepping into the role following Blazy’s departure (appointed in December 2024), I’m confident she has the exact concoction of creativity to deliver what Bottega oozes. Trotter has already quietly previewed her aesthetic with custom looks, her designs tend to be structured and elegant, a very restrained but impactful vision that I think aligns beautifully with the Bottega DNA. I’m actually really excited for this show.  Her first full collection will debut at Milan Fashion Week in September. Pierpaolo Piccioli at Balenciaga - credit to original source Pierpaolo Piccioli at Balenciaga Balenciaga 's parent company, Kering,  confirmed on 19 May 2025 that Pierpaolo Piccioli would succeed Demna Gvasalia  as Creative Director. It's a remarkably quick turnaround, having only received the handover in May,  but his resume speaks volumes. Having designed for the likes of Valentino and Moncler, and as someone who’s admired some of his work at Valentino, I think Balenciaga is a good fit. His designs tend to be simplistic, but with interesting, sharp cuts & shapes - something Balenciaga is also known for.  His S/S 2026 collection will be unveiled during Paris Fashion Week in September, marking his first outing for the house. Jonathan Anderson at Dior - I'm so anticipating this - credit to original source Jonathan Anderson at Dior - Womenswear In a historic move, Jonathan Anderson has been named Dior's sole Creative Director, covering women’s, men’s, and haute couture collections. Crazy! The first designer to hold all three roles since Christian Dior himself. But honestly, it couldn’t have gone to anyone more deserving. He truly proved himself at Loewe , holding the role for a decade and making remarkable progress for the fashion house. I completely agree that he suits this role. He already debuted his first menswear collection in June, showcasing his unique vibe. It was praised by the media as a “quiet revolution”  at Dior, noting his elegant, craft-conscious aesthetic and fresh layering approach. I’m ecstatically  waiting to see his first womenswear collection. Who knows I could even get to walk it - someone send this article to the casting director ;) xox  “We need to dial up London Fashion Week again” Do not fear, even though the majority of new Creative Direction seems to be hitting Milan and Paris, London is definitely not being left behind. Laura Weir , the newly appointed CEO of the British Fashion Council (BFC), is set to attend her first London Fashion Week in the role. She’s only been in the job for a few months and has already made instrumental moves for the British fashion scene -  including scrapping fees for BFC members, allowing more emerging designers to get involved. Which, in my opinion, is very commendable. In an interview with Julia Hobbs in this month’s Vogue , Weir says, “Brace yourself for London Fashion Week. This is the start of a different era.”   !!! Major You can feel the shift as it’s happening. The industry is going through vast changes, and I cannot wait to write about all of it. I can’t wait to experience it firsthand from the modelling perspective. #CatchMeOnTheRunway I’m elated to be in an age of such development and creativity, just now coming into a fast evolving part of my career, growing and exploring multiple pathways in the industry. (Mainly because I’m indecisive and want to experience it all.) I can’t wait to see what this new era of fashion brings - and of course report it all to you.  Loewe — one to watch Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez take over Loewe. credit to original source Loewe is interesting to talk about because, as one of LVMH’s oldest fashion houses, it has a standard to maintain - especially coming off a ridiculously successful decade run by the iconic Jonathan Anderson. Under his Creative Direction, the house quadrupled its revenue. Iconic.  Now, I’m eager to see (and judge) Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez,  the creators of Proenza Schouler and newly appointed Creative Directors of Loewe.  They’re two of the only ones in this new creative director mix without prior experience at the helm of a major fashion house. That’s a lot of pressure. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got up their sleeves. We’ll find out on September 27th , when they showcase their talents at Paris Fashion Week. One shot to leave an impression. They better have come to win. Because the fashion industry is ready to judge.  In an interview with Maya Singer, McCollough & Hernandez said something I really admire: “The important thing is getting the vibe right.” “But filtered through the codes of the House. Us, but LOEWE.” Here comes the biggest fashion month... Honestly, this is such  an accurate way of articulating a creative director’s job. They’re a vessel, trusted temporarily and given the honour of sharing their take on a brand. To tell the house’s story at this moment in time. The only constant in the equation is the fashion house itself, and the direction they choose should always be reflective of its core essence and history. Set your calendars, divas. • Inside Mimi's Harper’s Bazaar Tokyo Shoot

this is still insane to me & it's been 5 months Some moments in life make you want to pinch yourself. Mine came in Japan, when I spontaneously decided to spend three months living in Tokyo. I worked with a multitude of companies, but couture roses on my dress, a giant bow on my chest, and Harper’s Bazaar  on the other side of the camera? That had to take the crown. It still feels crazy to type that out. It’s been over five months since I got back from Japan (although it feels like it was yesterday) and that shoot remains one of my favourite achievements of my gap year. I’ve always been a dreamer, in every sense. That didn’t change upon entering the modelling industry at age 16. I set my mind that I wanted to do a big editorial (in one of the big 3) , walk a runway at Paris Fashion week, and work for a high end designer.  #2outof3baby. The Big three  - The hierarchy of fashion magazines is pretty clear for the top three: Vogue  reigns supreme, fronted by none other than Anna Wintour herself. Every fashion girl’s dream is to work with Vogue or be affiliated in some way with Condé Nast. There’s a reason people hoard stacks upon stacks of old Vogues like treasure. Harper’s Bazaar  is a close second, from a different publisher - Hearst. Born in New York in 1913, Bazaar is like Vogue’s more relaxed, go with the flow sibling. Underrated, in my opinion. And the one I now have my face in. (Feel free to applaud.) Elle  comes in third, boasting a strong focus on beauty, setting it apart from Vogue as it has a stronger focus on the beauty side of things.  The call that made my gap year - my sweet Tokyo - I miss you I remember the exact moment I found out I was going to Japan on a modelling placement, because it was so sudden. My agent phoned me while I was working at Anthropologie HQ during my internship. She asked if I could jump on a call with a Tokyo-based agency in five minutes. UM,  babe, I’m working .  I explained to my boss, got a 15-minute break, and hopped on Zoom ASAP. They took some photos, we chatted, and by 5 p.m. my agent texted, “Guess who’s going to Tokyo?”  Immediately I was filled with excitement, but then an overwhelming wave of apprehension. I was freshly eighteen, had just started a new job, and had plans for the new year - which is when I'd be leaving. Deciding it would be stupid to say no, I quit my job, cancelled my new years plans, suffocated my anxiety & said YES!  In January 2025, I landed in Japan and began my three-month adventure in the cultural hub of Tokyo. I have millions of stories from that trip, which I'm sure you’ll hear one day, but today, let’s skip to week eight. How i found out about Harpers - I was in my cutesy little Tokyo apartment - my first time ever living alone, and on a completely different continent,  and somehow I was thriving.  I miss my apartment profusely. check out those angel numbers too! CRAZ It was a Sunday, my only day off, and I was doing laundry when my Tokyo agent texted: “You booked Harper’s Bazaar Japan tomorrow 🖤” I screamed, jumped up and down - before realising the Japanese are very precious about their flooring, so I switched to quietly hopping. I blasted music and tried to call my mum despite the eight hour time difference. Ecstatic doesn’t even cover it. Manifesting to the Max - One of my best friends in Tokyo had already shot for Harper’s Bazaar  a few weeks before this and I was so jealous. I even sent my mum a video saying how happy I was for her, but also that I was surrounded by people constantly saying, “Oh, I did Harper’s  the other day,” “I did Elle  yesterday,” “I’ve got a Vogue shoot next week.” At the end of the video, I literally say, “Let’s touch wood and manifest it for me!” WHAT. THE. HELL. I had no recollection of sending the video, and the very next day, I got the booking. If that doesn’t prove the power of voicing your goals, I don’t know what will. The Big Day - For those who don’t know: modelling shoots can be long, exhausting, and, frankly, horrible. But in Japan, I felt like royalty. The level of respect is unmatched, so I had no doubt the Harper’s Bazaar  team would be the same. felt like such a diva with all the team making me look perf When I arrived, I felt welcomed (even though I was unfortunately burdened with a cold). Turns out I’d already worked with the hairstylist before, when I shot for Numero Magazine in January! Last time he gave me extensions and a faux fringe. This time, he backcombed my entire head - ouch. It took forever, my hair was massive, but honestly? I’d have let them do anything to it (minus dyeing or cutting). I mean it was Harper’s Bazaar!! It’s crazy how well I remember all the details. It was such a big moment for me. The room smelt of roses and soap, there were hair products everywhere and rows upon rows of couture. It was every fashion lover's dream. My outfit was a one of a kind Marni dress with a high neck and was covered in hand-drawn black and red roses. Around the bust, they added a huge Nina Ricci bow top. I was covered from neck to ankle, but I loved the modesty of it. They even brought out the wind machine, and my backcombed hair was going for it. The entire team was lovely, and I felt so pampered while getting my hair and makeup done - nothing like in the UK. The team spoke Japanese with some broken English, but two months in, I’d learned a few phrases and did my best to make an impression. SO in my broken Japanese I joked about how big my hair was and everyone actually laughed and understood me - goals. Release day -  My stupid visa expired and my contract ended one week before the magazine's release, so I was back in dreary England when my best friend - who stayed an extra month - facetimed me with it in her hands.  I’d begged her to buy it for me and bring it back to London, which she did. She flicked through… and there I was. AND. The picture they’d chosen was actually good (Models will understand the fear of opening final shots and seeing something muggy as hell.) Then she flipped to the cover. My jaw dropped. Rihanna. My queen, Riri?! Hell yeah. In my mind, that  basically equates to a meet and greet. We share paper together. We are in the same magazine. We both looked good as hell. Accomplished to the max. Life made. For my super mysterious anonymity to remain in tact i can't be sharing my face. Just be grateful you got some crumbs from my camera roll. You'll get a face reveal at some point xox Slowing Down to Celebrate Shooting for Harper’s Bazaar  is 100% one of the highlights of my modelling career so far, even if I had to explain the significance to my fashion-dense friends and family. I wanted to write about it today because as I’m nearing the end of my gap year, yesterday I found myself feeling like maybe I hadn’t accomplished enough or utilised my time effectively. But here’s the thing: so many of us forget our old goals as soon as we hit them. We don’t celebrate. We move on too fast. After I did Harper’s , I moved on immediately to seek higher. I’m now realising the importance of slowing down and appreciating what I once dreamed of I also accomplished. And that’s a great feeling. With love, mimi xox

  • The Icons: Top 5 Models Who Defined the Runway

Supermodels are rare. Real supermodels? Even rarer. And in my eyes, only five women have earned the right to be called icons. These five women have a presence that can silence a runway and whose impact is felt far and wide in the fashion industry. As a model myself I feel I have some credibility when it comes to name dropping & critiquing. I’ve been to countless fashion week castings for designers like Burberry, Simone Rocha, Zimmerman, and Alexander McQueen. credit to original source I’ll never forget the moment I was minutes away from being confirmed to walk Simone Rocha S/S 2024, when my agent phoned, six hours before the show, to say I hadn't been confirmed. The reason? Kelly Rutherford, the queen herself, Lily van der Woodsen, decided she wanted to walk and took my look. OUTRAGE! I was mortified at the time, but that’s the industry: gruelling, unpredictable, rejection-heavy. Let’s take them one by one, a brief yet indulgent look at their careers and their best moments. You can make your own opinions on if they make it onto your top five. 5. Bella Hadid  credit to original source Let’s start with the only new-generation face in my list, Bella Hadid, because she’s the only one here still in the making of her legacy. Bella is not yet a supermodel in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, she’s super cool, but compared to the veterans in the other four spots? Not quite there yet. She’s graced over 60 magazine covers ( Vogue , Harper’s Bazaar , Elle ), walked 400+ runways for houses like Chanel, Dior, and Versace, and starred in a staggering number of campaigns. I still remember the first time her walk, grace, and presence really stunned me - Virgil Abloh’s Off-White Fall 2021 show. In a simple blue mini dress, she owned the runway. The face card? So strong I still get flashbacks. credit to original source She’s deeply connected to her fans and highly influential on social media, setting trends left, right, and centre with her cowgirl-chic-boho aesthetic. Being Gigi’s sister gave her a boost early on, but some would argue Bella’s impact has surpassed her sibling’s. Fave Bella Moment:   The Coperni spray dress. Live. On the runway. It was nothing short of breathtaking, the first of its kind. I watched the behind the scenes interview filmed beforehand. She was surprised it would be fabric, not paint. The entire nation was stunned at how the latex material sprayed, set, and became wearable in real time. Magic. 4. Yasmeen Ghauri credit to original source The queen herself. She is so underrated. I first discovered her while reading the Chanel catwalk book, in a black sequined mini dress cut to accentuate her waist. It stood out to me when I was about 14 and since has become one of my favourite runway looks.  She walked over 200 shows for names like Chanel, Versace, and Prada, owning the ’90s era. She may not be talked about like “The Big Six,” but I’d happily debate that she could have turned the Big Six into the Big Seven.  Lower stats? Sure. But quality over quantity , as every UK English teacher says.  Her early retirement from the spotlight also makes her shorter stint in the modelling world even more impactful because she made her mark and retired at 27. Goals. Even with her lower stats she still made time for over 40 covers for Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and more.  credit to original source Fave Yasmeen Moment: John Galliano is one of my favourite designers of all time. His influence on the industry is exceptional and his design for Yasmeen as Cleopatra. ICONIC. John Galliano’s A/W 1997 show displayed Yasmeen as Queen Cleopatra. The fringe, the black bob, the golden gown. As a designer myself the craftsmanship is divine. Honourable mention to that Chanel black sequin dress - her stance, her body, and most impressively, her face. Her face is one of the best I've ever seen in the industry. Whoever scouted her. Well done.  3. Naomi Campbell 800+ runways. Over 500 covers. Honestly, is there a designer she hasn’t walked for? Naomi, send me your contact details for when i have my own label xox.  Got to give it to the girl, she is a supermodel. Her walk is dubbed joint best in the industry by none other than Anna Wintour. And i couldn't agree more. The first black model on the cover of Vogue France - and the start of many after her. Her activism and charity work is admirable and I am in awe of how she uses her platform for so much positive change - particularly for the Black community in fashion. credit to original source Her inner circle is as iconic as her career, muse to Gianni Versace, dear friend to André Leon Talley - one of my favourite figures within the industry. The man knew everyone, was everything, and seemingly could handle everything too. If André loved you, you were the real deal. Fave Naomi Moment:   The infamous 1993 Vivienne Westwood fall at the CFDA Awards. Towering platforms, a tumble, and a recovery that became fashion history. She took it like a champ and it rewarded her. And of course, she’s part of the original Big Six - automatic top-five material. 2. Shalom Harlow credit to original source With a name like Shalom Harlow, she was always destined for fame. Her walk carries a weight in the industry, even Anna Wintour lists her and Naomi as the best walks to grace the fashion industry ever.  She’s walked over 150 runways, but every one was for the crème de la crème, walking year after year for designers such as McQueen, Versace, Chanel. Over 30 covers, including W , and an unmatched ability to pose with fluid, almost dancer-like grace. Which is very difficult to master. Her face card again is mesmerising, as are all 5 of the girls. I mean they are models, come on. However Shalom’s face is definitely distinctly unique to me. She definitely won the genetic lottery.  Shalom's iconic walk for Todd Oldham - credit to original source Her walk needs its own paragraph for sure. She manages to walk as if she is fluid, almost with a dancer-like movement that definitely made her stand out on the runway. One of my  favourite moments of hers is the walk she did at Todd Oldham’s SS95 show. When she walked in front of Amber Valletta during the show. Shalom, accidentally walked faster and jokingly told Amber to "keep up." They then turned in unison, creating the iconic moment many think of when thinking of Shalom!  credit to original source Fave Shalom Moment:  The McQueen robot arms in S/S 1999. Obviously!! I mean she was literally painted by a robot. She walked out in a plain white dress, the robotic arms sprayed her with paint. She said herself she, “ walked, almost staggered, up to the audience and splayed myself in front of them with complete abandon and surrender.” Her ability to story tell and diversify herself with whichever designer she is working for is one of my favourite things about her. 1. Gisele Bündchen most insane facial structure ever credit to original source Top spot. That’s not handed out lightly around here. So let’s uncover what makes Gisele my number one pick. Over 350 runways walked for the biggest names - Gucci, Versace, Chanel, and of course Victoria’s Secret , where she reigned from 2000–2007. In one fashion week alone? She walked 37 shows. Almost unmatched. Her signature ‘horse walk’, hips forward, shoulders back, fierce stomp, was so distinct that designers booked her purely for that movement. And to the models still trying to replicate it ... let it go. She broke records, not just on the runway but as the world’s highest-earning model for 14 years straight. Forbes’ #1 from 2002 to 2016. Icon behaviour. Discovered in a São Paulo mall at only 14. She speaks a staggering six languages (Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, French, and German). Credited with ending the 90s “heroin chic” era, ushering in strong, healthy beauty to the runway. Queen of inclusivity. The list goes on and on, off the runway? She is a passionate environmental advocate, serving as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme since 2009.  Extra brownie points from me. credit to original source Fave Gisele Moment:   Too many to name. But her business smarts deserve their own applause, launching brands, writing a best-selling memoir, negotiating contracts on her own terms (including the legendary “no bare glutes” Victoria’s Secret clause). If I had to choose? The Polaroid dress - literally made of photos of herself. My dream. Oh, and her The Devil Wears Prada cameo. Is there anything she can’t do? She has been labelled the “model of models”  by fellow supermodels like Naomi Campbell who have publicly praised her work ethic and business smarts - a rarity in an overwhelmingly competitive industry. She is the only übermodel to ever exist. And that alone earns her the crown. These five aren’t just beautiful faces, they’re forces. They’ve turned runways into theatre, campaigns into cultural shifts, they’ve started and ended trends, and turned moments into history. Maybe your list is different. That’s the beauty of fashion - the debate is half the fun. With love, mimi xox

  • The Mimi Edit: What’s Hot (& What’s Not) This September

whoever this diva is, i approve xx Welcome Mimi Gals! To our first ever trend-spotting blog post. These are going to become a regular staple on the site, so set a reminder, strap in, and get comfy. We’re diving into the hottest, freshest trend predictions for September. Coming to you in August so you have time to prepare your wardrobe (or your bank account). This list has been curated by none other than Mimi’s very own fashion brain (plus a few Pinterest rabbit holes and chaotic tiktoks, obviously). The season shift is creeping in, and here in the UK, it’s anyone’s guess what the weather is doing. August has basically become the new transitional month between summer and autumn, and September? Well, that’s where my heart truly lies. September! The peak of fashion dressing.  Just cool enough for a jumper, but still warm enough to rock a mini skirt. It’s the month when personal style really shines, the fashion Olympics, if you will. This is when you can spot the icons who know how to style, from the ones who just… put clothes on. So without further ado, let’s get into it. In no particular order, here are my top trend predictions for September: Oversized Glasses with Colourful Frames Say goodbye to minimalistic eyewear. Say hello to stepping into the spotlight with statement specs. From cherry red box frames to translucent green rectangles, colourful glasses are less about vision correction and more about sartorial expression. They’re the  new "it" accessory. No prescription required. I’m obsessed with this look. I’ve spotted a few select fashion baddies already rocking their Jimmy Fairly obsession to perfection. At first, I was sceptical, thinking, how is a kiwi green frame going to protect my eyes? But after some research, I can officially approve: they’re all UVA & UVB protected. We love safe style. The pinterest aesthetic of a chunky frame has been on my feed for at least 4 months, living rent free. However to pair it with the Jimmy Fairly staple funky lenses. Game. Over. I am a massive fan, creative expression and  interchangeable lenses? Consider me converted. My favourite picks: Elma – Cherry Red Elvie – Translucent Green Gabrie – Tortoiseshell Marbled Level Up – Retro Blue Chunky Wool Turtlenecks Summer’s going to be over, and comfort is definitely going to be in. Oversized, thick-knit turtlenecks are making their return, and they’re giving luxury-chic with a side of cosy. Think exaggerated textures, rich neutrals, and an effortlessly snug silhouette.  I might even go as far as to say this is going to be my favourite trend prediction. I am obsessed with the chicness of covering the neck with a warm wool. So you can feel confident & warm all at once. Strut around with your knee high boots, chunky frame Jimmy Fairly’s, mini skirt & pair it with a sleek wool turtleneck. You are Golden!!  Headbands Blair Waldorf revival alert. Maybe it's because I'm rewatching Gossip Girl , or maybe it’s because they are iconic - but headbands are making their triumphant return. Whether marbled, solid, or translucent, these retro gems add a touch of nostalgic whimsy to your autumn look. Knee-High Boots (Again) The ultimate transitional staple. Knee-high boots refuse to leave the trend cycle, and honestly? I’m not mad about it. Whether classic black leather or buttery brown suede, this versatile favourite is stomping into September with a vengeance. Heeled, flat, slouchy or sleek - pick your fighter. You can’t really go wrong with a knee high boot and I'm here to formally announce that they are back. Leopard Print — In or Out? Leopard hasn’t really left circulation since 2023, however this season it's got a point to prove. After being borderline “tacky” for a minute, it’s clawing back into high fashion territory - I think potentially it is more of a high street, cheaper trend now.  So I'm not giving it too much of my time. However I think for higher fashion, think muted tones (serving straight snow leopard), elegant silhouettes, and a little less tacky. Done right, it’s luxe and powerful. Done wrong, it’s... questionable. So tread carefully.  The Revival of Modesty After seasons of micro-minis and sheer everything, the pendulum is swinging the other way. Modesty has always been in, however I think with the influx of Influencers like Sofia Richie and Kendall Jenner dressing more modestly in recent years, there is going to be a real increase in a quieter style.  Think longline coats, maxi skirts, and layering done right. Less about showing the most skin, more about showing the right skin. It’s not about covering up, it’s about selective styling. Not “look at me,” but “look closer” My go-to stores for quiet chic: Massimo Dutti Mango Victoria Beckham COS Free People Check out our moodboard below for some modest-style inspo: all post imagery has been occupied from pinterest - all credit given to original sources Hope you love these hot takes on emerging trends... and if I see a fashion icon rocking around in high neck jumpers, knee high boots, jazzy headband, and the coolest glasses ever. Just know i’m taking credit & I'll know you are an absurdly cool girl who reads with love, mimi… If you’ve made it this far and read through all the suggestions, please feel free to drop a comment below about your trend thoughts and any opinions you have about this article.  with love, mimi xox

  • Day in the Life: Model Agency Event Edition!

#NotAnInfluencer (But Kind Of) While I don’t call myself an influencer... … being signed to a top London agency opens some very influencer-adjacent doors. I’ve been invited to influencer events and been given PR - just without the influencer job title. It's one of those weird perks that kind of slips under the radar.  This week I attended my   first event hosted by the agency itself, which felt like a milestone moment. Around fashion week, the agency often gets sponsorship to give their models - usually so we can post, tag, and create buzz around both the brand and the agency. But this time, since fashion week is still a month off, the focus was different. The event was centred around health and nutrition, a kind of prep session to get us in the right mindset for castings, long days, and keeping our bodies fuelled properly for the madness that is fashion month. Prepping for Fashion Week: Health, Wellness & Nutrition The day kicked off with a rooftop mat Pilates class at the agency. I’d never been up there before, but the panoramic London skyline? Genuinely breathtaking. Thankfully, I had some Pilates experience (so I don’t think I looked like a total idiot), though some of the other girls definitely needed more 1-on-1 guidance. Pilates is no joke if you're new to it. After the class, we headed back down to the main office where a celebrity nutritionist - who had been specially brought in by the agency owner - was waiting to give us the lowdown. Think top tips, products to try, healthy alternatives, and how to project actual  health (not just the illusion of it) All in the hope we’ll stand out more at castings, of course. all rights reserved to original creators of imagery not original to me Although this is not a health blog i will briefly diverge from fashion talk to share my favourite tips she shared - We should be eating 10 portions of fruit & veg a day - 2 fruit, 8 veg A portion = 4 tablespoons (??? i’ve been thinking wrong my whole life) Healthy fats support skin, hormones, brain health & energy levels 1.2g protein per kg body weight should be your daily protein goal Eat the rainbow - different colour = different set of nutrients 1.5-2 litres a day of water is non-negotiable Avocado is basically a gift from god The event was informative, and the sponsorship freebies were top-tier: yoga mat, supplements, protein powder, collagen, breakfast bars… the lot. But more importantly, I left feeling like I’d actually absorbed the info, instead of just hearing it and forgetting it five minutes later. Behind the Glamour: What Influencer Events Are Really  Like  If I'm being honest, usually events like this and others I've attended are glamourised a bit, to project that influencers/ models - whoever. Have a perfect life, now this is just not true! I can see why an influencer would glamourise because their entire brand is online and what they post on socials. But you have to remember no one posts their bad days, they only post what they want you to see. Networking With Purpose: Camper, Fred Perry & More Still, some of these events are genuinely useful. My first ever brand event was with  Camper (the UK-based footwear brand). Obviously, as a fashion girlie, I wasn’t just there for the vibes, I treated it as a networking opportunity and made contacts. As we all should  be doing. The second event I went to was with  Fred Perry , and this time I had a clear mission. I dedicated the entire evening chatting with the social media rep, low-key campaigning to get featured in their content dump I knew  would be going live the next day. And sure enough, whose face popped up on the Fred Perry  Instagram the following morning? Mine! Connecting and networking is all well and good but it needs purpose. Be aware of who people are, and if you don’t know ASK!  I ended up connecting with multiple people working for Fred Perry  that night & we even joked about me setting up an internship with them - which was completely on purpose. If I ever apply for one, I can name drop that exact interaction. And trust me I will. Another event I attended was less fashion-focused, more fashion appreciation. It was for Schuh x Season Magazine , celebrating the Women’s Euro qualifiers. The crowd was full of creatives and fashion lovers - some in the industry, some just deeply stylish people. The outfits alone were worth the RSVP. Before I left, I made sure to talk to the main photographer and get a picture. I hated it at first (as we all do), but guess what? The Schuh  team posted it anyway. Closing Thoughts: Swim the Fastest My main point here is not to try and brag. It’s about showing that putting yourself out there matters! Make yourself known. Whether that’s saying hi to someone you don’t know, asking a question, or making the first move in a conversation - you never know where it could lead. The fashion industry is so overcrowded, and it’s only getting more cutthroat. Some people float. Some sink.  We have to be the ones to not only float but swim - and even then, swim the fastest. With love, mimi xox

  • How to Look Effortless Without Trying (Danish Edition)

Genes & Jeans I recently spent a week in Copenhagen surrounded by humans so genetically blessed, I started questioning my family tree. My jaw was dropped the majority of the trip, every angle, every street corner, every crevice of my eyesight there was a human (if you could even call them that) with outrageously good genes. Copenhagen didn’t just steal my heart - it stole my self-esteem. First of all, the genes of the Danes. My god. I actually came back semi-mad at my parents for not blessing me with some Scandinavian blood. The entire week, I didn't see a single unattractive person (other than the odd tourist - me excluded). And the one thing they all had in common, apart from the majestic blonde locks and piercing blue eyes, was the style! Their genes and their jeans. Impeccable. Frankly offensive, really.    all images occupied via pinterest - rights reserved to original creators Although, not to brag, but - I was mistaken for a Danish girl while sitting along Nyhavn canal. So perhaps my family tree isn’t a total write off.  The Men Of course, I paid minute attention to the men, for research purposes only. Obviously.  Their style? Baggy jeans, embroidery, chunky knitwear layered over t-shirts, stripes, jewellery that’s intentional but never attention-seeking. The word is effortless. I was stunned to my very core at just how cool everyone looked, and a little bit in love. No notes to give - which is rare for a certified critic of men. I was travelling with a fellow fashion fanatic, and together we were humbled by how quickly we morphed into Danish style, by the direct influence of the ridiculously, effortlessly chic women. Let's talk trends Because everyone says the same things when discussing Scandi style, and rightfully so. It does have a very apparent look: the stripes, linens, and pastels. They’re the main three people go for. I’m going to give you a bit more substance. Largely, yes, this is Scandi style. But what actually makes them look so cool and chic? We’ll explore that through the trends I observed myself. The Gals & Their Stripes  There’s no secret that the Scandi Baddies love a lightweight material, almost always paired with a stripe pattern, however the amount of variations were crazy. The main fabrics were, of course, lightweight: cotton, linen, even lace. The stripes. Jaw dropped. There was an influx of stripes, I'm surprised I didn't get hypnotised. Horizontal, vertical, thick, thin, medium, wavy, straight, pink, blue, blue, green, yellow, brown - trousers, shorts, tops, jumpers, coats - the list is endless.  If it comes in a stripe, the Danes are buying it and if you see something that isn’t striped, you probably aren’t in Denmark. all credits reserved to original owners of imagery The “just rolled out of bed” look is so insanely opposite to what Brits consider a chill outfit. They wear such lightweight, chill clothing which gives off a relaxed vibe but they never look slumpy or lazy. They look put together because of how they accessorise, so minimalistically yet purposefully.  Which moves me perfectly to my next point…  Accessorising Is Not Optional in Copenhagen  Tote bags are a huge trend. Part of the appeal is that they don’t feel the need to wear tiny bags to look cute. They have stuff to carry, places to be, things to do. Even Mary Poppins doesn’t have a bag as big. Chunky gold jewellery - gold specifically, seems to be the go-to for Scandi babes. As a gold girlie and a ritual overpacker with my tiny shoulder bags myself, I am an avid supporter of this movement.  A lot of the style in Scandinavian countries is more modest than the UK, for sure. The hate towards crop tops is apparent in all the Scandi countries I’ve visited. And in my opinion, it helps their cool factor. Now, I’m not a fan of crop tops, so maybe I’m biased. Take Mimi’s word for it: crop tops are too 2016 to be involved in the big 2025. Much more elegant - which is what these Scandinavian girls are serving us: modesty with a twist of modernisation. all imagery rights reserved to original owners Clogs?  A final note goes to their footwear. My travel partner was seriously considering buying the Birkenstock clog after our trip. We saw about 700 pairs during our visit. It was insane - must be their version of crocs. I can fully understand the vision for the Danes, however i tried to reiterate to her that i don’t think the look would translate over in the UK. The weather’s too unpredictable for suede, and the shape kind of channels a wooden clog vibe. In other shoe related business, the rise of platform flip flops. I am 100% buying a pair immediately.  Channeling My Inner Dane I’ve been influenced and I’m owning it.  If you see me in stripes, don’t say a word. The effortless look the entire population manages to carry is ridiculously impressive. I’ve come to realise the reason they look so effortless is because it is effortless for them. They aren’t trying too hard. No overthinking, no over-styling,  just pure style instinct. My goal is to channel that energy: effortless, without trying to be. I want to be this diva - rights reserved to original source To conclude… Scandi Baddie Starter Pack: Stripes, stripes & stripes  Tote bag big enough to smuggle a whale Gold jewellery (chunky as hell) Modesty with a modern twist Effortless confidence (optional for Brits, mandatory for Danes) with love, mimi  xox

  • pov: You get asked to audition for a supermodel in a Netflix Show…

Yes, you heard that right. Our main girl Mimi got asked to audition for a Netflix show a few weeks ago. Now, I can neither confirm nor deny whether I've heard back about this opportunity yet . But let me take you back a few weeks to when I first got the call… I was in my studio, sewing as per. I basically live, eat, breathe, and sleep around my sewing machine. Anyway, I was sewing my brains out when I got a call from one of my best friends - who also happens to be signed to my agency. She calls me and says,“OMG I’ve just heard from (our agent) and she wants me to audition for this super confidential acting job!” Basically, she had to remain confidential about all the details. After calming her down about the fact she’d have to be more than just her gorgeous self, she’d actually have to act,  I refreshed my inbox. I had the exact  same email. In all its glory, I read through the details and the attached script. The character was kind of narcissistic - but not in a cunty way, more like a cringey “ew she’s obsessed with herself” way. Either way, my eyes lit up when I read the payment details, and I got to work memorising the lines. Netflix cut me a cheque please xxx There was an option to self-tape at home. Or we could trek into the agency where the agents would help us with the filming process. We both chose to film it in person the next day, with the support of each other, it wouldn't be as embarrassing. Or so we thought. I tried to channel the character, and for the full purpose of respecting Netflix confidentiality agreements, let’s call her Gemma. Gemma is this angsty teen supermodel, who's mindblowingly stunning, has been on the cover of Vogue  twelve times, always booked solid for Fashion Week, and has never had a bad hair day. I was so  sure I could channel this for the audition. Bear in mind: I am no  actress. I model & i keep my mouth shut most of the time while doing it. This was way out of my comfort zone. But a lesson we all have to learn sooner or later is that comfort zones end up killing us in some way or another, our dreams, our progress, our life! So to step away from that, I said: “Fuck it. Let’s do it.” all imagery is gathered from pinterest - all rights reserved to owners of imagery When I arrived at the agency the next day, I felt ready. Rehearsed. Ridicule-free. Of course, this quickly changed the second I made eye contact with my friend who arrived after me, we both lost it. The second-hand embarrassment became real. We read lines together while waiting for the filming room to become free, and I got a sense of how she interpreted Gemma. And may I just say (not to toot my own horn) but I defo  had it in the bag over her. Out of curiosity, we asked the agents how many people were up for the part. To our surprise? Just me and her. Crazy. Considering not even five days earlier we were on holiday in Copenhagen together, and now we were going head-to-head for a Netflix role. Maybe I’m too sentimental, but it felt too coincidental. Especially because we’re polar opposites in the looks department. It was nothing short of fate. Now, even though I had arrived earlier, I went second (classic). So off she went to film and, after what felt like fifty minutes, she came back. Red in the face, laughing, shaking her head at me. “That was the worst thing I’ve ever had to do,” she announced. That was really the cherry on top  to fill me with confidence, so off I went… When I arrived to the filming studio, it wasn’t just one agent -  there were two. This meant business if two had taken the time to help me. I really felt the pressure. One read the other character’s lines, and one was filming.  I actually don’t want to put myself down - because genuinely, I think I could be a great actress if I tried and got out of my own head. My expression is good (as I was kindly told during this process), and I don’t over-announce like some actors. The one thing that got to me? My anxiety. I kept messing up. Midway through one of the three scenes, I’d cringe myself out and audibly voice it. Like my embarrassment just couldn't be contained. It was a three-scene script meant to show different sides of Gemma’s character. On the fifth or sixth try, I finally got to the end of Scene 3, all in one take! And then… forgot the final line. Perfect. The main agent was getting visibly annoyed with me at this point, but I had warned her. I was the girl who, in primary school, got cast as the female lead in the Year 6 play… and then went home and spent three hours  trying (and failing) to sing the first verse of my solo to my mum. I couldn’t sing the first line without laughing as an escape tactic. This is a bit different to what I was thinking I would write about but I think it’s an important message! Anxiety can manifest in so many different ways. Sometimes the loudest, most “annoying” person in the room is just anxious and conveying it in a way others may not recognise. Sometimes, we sabotage ourselves because the pressure to not mess up only makes us mess up more. I got through it in the end and I was hopeful that I’d done well enough to be considered for the next stage of casting. But even if not, I left with a sense of relief. I knew I had put my all  into it and could honestly say I had done my best. And at the end of the day, your best is all you can do. It’s a story to tell either way, and here I am telling it now.  I can proudly say now that I've experienced auditioning for Netflix - something I'm sure most people can’t say. with love, mimi xox
